Privacy Policy (Beta)
GroupOut (“we,” “our,” “us”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use the GroupOut mobile app and related beta services (the “Service”).
Beta notice: GroupOut is in pre-release beta testing. Features, data practices, and this policy may change as we learn from testers. We will notify you of material changes through the app or other reasonable means.
Who We Are
GroupOut is a U.S.-based, location-enabled real-time social networking app for singles. We help people see where the night is happening at shared venues — bars, restaurants, and clubs — and connect in person when both people choose to engage. GroupOut is not a dating app; we do not algorithmically match you with other users.
We built GroupOut because the best connections happen face-to-face, not through endless swiping or performative profiles. When you Go Live at a venue, you can see who else is live there tonight, send a ping, and chat — then get out of the way so you can meet in real life.
Where This Privacy Policy Applies
This Privacy Policy applies to our mobile application and related beta services currently offered in the United States, with initial beta activity focused in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. It does not apply to third-party services or websites you may interact with through our platform.
During beta, paid subscriptions and in-app purchases are not available.
Data We Collect
Data You Give Us
You retain ownership of the content you create and share on GroupOut.
- Profile data — first name, age, gender, who you are open to meeting, favorite drink (bio substitute), and interests/tags.
- Session & venue data — the venue you select when you Go Live, and whether you have arrived at that venue.
- Photos — photos you capture in-app for your live session (camera-only during beta).
- Messages — content you send in ping chat threads.
- Beta feedback — survey responses, support messages, and optional debrief forms.
- Customer support data — inquiry details, screenshots, and account identifiers you provide.
We do not currently support linking Instagram, Spotify, or other social accounts during beta.
Data Generated or Automatically Collected
- Location data — for discovering nearby venues, Go Live, and arrival detection. We do not show your precise location on a map to other users.
- Photos & camera data — in-app photo capture for session use.
- Usage data — app interactions, Go Live / Go Dark times, pings sent, messages sent.
- Technical data — IP address, device identifiers, operating system, app version, and crash logs.
- Messaging analytics — aggregated or anonymized trends to improve safety and product quality.
Data We Do Not Collect (Beta)
- Payment or billing data (no purchases during beta).
- Government ID or third-party identity verification.
- Inferred physical or aesthetic traits from your photos for matching — we do not match users algorithmically.
How We Use Data
- Create and manage your account.
- Show venue activity and, after you arrive, who is live at your venue tonight.
- Enable pings, chat, and mutual in-real-life (IRL) confirmation flows.
- Operate Go Live, Go Dark, arrival detection, and session expiry.
- Maintain safety, trust, and abuse prevention.

- Communicate with you about the beta (including push notifications, if enabled).
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your photos to algorithmically rank, score, or match you with other users based on appearance.
How We Share Data
- Other users at your venue — when you are live and arrived, other live users at the same venue may see your session information in the venue roster.
- Service providers — hosting, authentication (Supabase), location/Places services, analytics, crash reporting, and support tools.
- Moderation & safety — to investigate reports and enforce our Terms.
- Legal obligations — when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or restructuring.
- Aggregated or anonymized insights — non-identifiable usage data.
We never sell your personal data. We do not sell or share user contact lists with venue partners.
